Assistant Club Volleyball Coach Position Overview
The Assistant Club Volleyball Coach supports the Head Coach in delivering a high-quality developmental experience for athletes within the Girls’ Youth Volleyball Program. This role is central to building fundamental skills, fostering a positive team culture, and helping young athletes grow both on and off the court.
The ideal candidate is passionate about youth sports development, communicates effectively with players and families, and thrives in a collaborative coaching environment. This is a seasonal, part-time position reporting directly to the Head Coach and Program Director.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching and Player Development
Assist the Head Coach in planning and leading practices, drills, and skill-development sessions for girls’ youth teams.
Teach core volleyball fundamentals, including passing, setting, hitting, serving, blocking, and defensive positioning.
Provide individualized feedback to athletes to accelerate skill acquisition and build confidence.
Help design and implement practice plans aligned with the program’s developmental curriculum and age-appropriate progression.
Support athletes in understanding game strategy, rotations, and team systems.
Team Culture and Mentorship
Model sportsmanship, respect, and accountability in all interactions with players, officials, and opposing teams.
Foster an inclusive, encouraging environment that prioritizes effort, learning, and teamwork over winning alone.
Serve as a positive role model and mentor, supporting players’ emotional and social development.
Promote healthy habits, injury prevention awareness, and proper warm-up and cool-down routines.
Game Day and Competition Support
Assist with pre-game preparation, warm-ups, and in-game coaching as directed by the Head Coach.
Track player rotations, substitutions, and statistics during matches and tournaments.
Provide constructive post-game feedback to players and contribute to game debriefs with the coaching staff.
Travel with the team to local and regional competitions as scheduled.
Program Operations and Communication
Maintain consistent communication with the Head Coach regarding player progress, attendance, and team needs.
Support parent communication and respond to program-related questions in a professional and timely manner.
Help set up and break down equipment before and after practices.
Ensure compliance with all club policies, safety protocols, and league regulations.
Participate in coaching staff meetings, training sessions, and program events.
Qualifications
Required
Prior experience playing or coaching volleyball at the club, high school, or collegiate level.
Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals, rules, and youth-appropriate coaching techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with children and adolescents.
Ability to commit to a full season, including evening and weekend practices and competitions.
Current USA Volleyball (USAV) IMPACT Certification or willingness to obtain it before season starts
Current SafeSport certification and successful completion of a background screening
First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season).
Preferred
Coaching certification from a recognized volleyball organization (e.g., USA Volleyball, NFHS).
Previous experience coaching girls’ youth teams, ideally ages 10 to 18.
Familiarity with age-group skill progressions and long-term athlete development principles.
Ability to assist with strength and conditioning or injury-prevention programming.

Work Environment and Schedule
This position operates in an indoor gymnasium, requiring physical activity such as demonstrating drills, moving equipment, and standing for extended periods. The schedule includes weekday evening practices and periodic tournaments throughout the season, which typically runs from October through May.
